Two weeks on the road. Dislocation takes its toll. The night can sure get lonely when you’re not here to hold. So I sing along with your favorite song. Turn the radio up high. And the music carries me away. Think of you to pass the time. Long Ride Home it seems my destiny is chasing a sunset and your memory. Long Ride Home the day turns to night. My restless heart shifts into overdrive. I’ll forget every mile when I’m holding you tight. Holding you tight at the end. Long Ride Home. Another sleepless night. Another sleepy town. One more endless highway that finds me homeward bound. There’s a road sign up ahead. That marks the Johnson county line. When I finally reach those city lights. Gonna make you glad you’re mine. Long Ride Home it seems my destiny is chasing a sunset and your memory. Long Ride Home the day turns to night. My restless heart shifts into overdrive. I’ll forget every mile when I’m holding you tight. Holding you tight at the end. Long Ride Home. Desire to hold you close. I know you feel it too. Oh Girl it won’t be long ‘til we make that wish come true. I’ll forget every mile when I’m holding you tight. Holding you tight at the end. Long Ride Home. Holding you tight at the end. Long Ride Home.

Summer Rayne comin’ down tonight. Fillin’ up my sky. You give life to everything. When you pass by. The stars are in your eyes and the wind whispers your name. But I’m the one who holds you. Summer Rayne. You fall again tonight. Into the arms that hold you tight. Cleanse my soul. Summer Rayne. Summer Rayne the love you give is everywhere. A gift from heaven is what you are. The answer to my prayers. Your face is the rainbow that lights my way. My little angel. Summer Rayne. You fall again tonight. Into the arms that hold you tight. Cleanse my soul. Summer Rayne. Cleanse my soul. Summer Rayne.

The Fool 03:46 video
Show me where it hurts and I’ll kiss the pain away. I’ll stand in your corner when you fight back yesterday. When the past is on your mind and the tears are in your eyes. I’ll be there to hold the love a fool can’t recognize. Must have been out of his mind. Must have been insane. Must have been all mixed up. To cause you so much pain. He was crazy not to love you. Now I’m here to let you know. I thank the Lord for sending you and the fool that let you go. You wake up every night ‘cause there’s memories in your head. Of lies and broken promises. And angry words he said. Lay your head back down. Rest safely in my arms. You know I’ll protect my girl from all life’s bitter storms. Must have been out of his mind. Must have been insane. Must have been all mixed up. To cause you so much pain. He was crazy not to love you. Now I’m here to let you know. I thank the Lord for sending you and the fool that let you go. Must have been out of his mind. Must have been insane. Must have been all mixed up. To cause you so much pain. He was crazy not to love you. Now I’m here to let you know. I thank the Lord for sending you and the fool that let you go. Out of his head. All screwed up. Borderline twisted. Disorder run amuck. I thank the Lord for sending you. And for letting you go. I thank the fool.

Times are hard. What a high price I pay. I’m giving all I’ve got. Just to make it through the day. What a comfort to know that you’re always there. Ever lay hold of what I bring to bear. When it’s just between you and me. In a prayer I find your love. Lord, you set me free. When there’s no one I can count on. You’re the one that I believe. When it’s just between you and me. When the world’s on my shoulders. I can’t stand up straight. Try to walk alone but I fall down from the weight. When we walk that road together. All my worries disappear. I can climb any mountain. Without any fear. When it’s just between you and me. In a prayer I find your love. Lord, you set me free. When there’s no one I can count on. You’re the one that I believe. When it’s just between you and me. There is power in your touch. You give me strength when mine is not enough. When it’s just between you and me. In a prayer I find your love. Lord, you set me free. When there’s no one I can count on. You’re the one that I believe. When it’s just between you and me.

Tonight your old friend came around. Say you need to see him to close it down. The clock strikes two, you’re not home. I guess closing time has come and gone. I think I know the answer but here I go. You got me talkin’ to myself. Ramblin’ on and on. Waiting for the Sandman with a TV show. A man speaks of the freedom in self control. Says you rule your thoughts. They don’t own you. If they run astray tell ‘em what to do. I flex my mental muscle and blow a fuse. You got me talkin’ to myself. Ramblin’ on ‘til these walls respond. If there was anybody else they could hear me out. Confirm my doubt. I can’t say what’s going down. Rick and Morty you build a story can’t wrap my head around. And what if all you say is true. Do I need the play by play to see I’m just a castaway. (What if you’re wrong) There’s a cage whose bars may hinder your birds-eye view. You got me talkin’ to myself. Ramblin’ on ‘til these walls respond. If there was anybody else they could hear me out. Confirm my doubt. You got me talkin’ to myself. Ramblin’ on ‘til these walls respond. If there was anybody else they could hear me out. Confirm my doubt. You got me talkin’. You got me. You got me talkin’.

The sun gives up on another day. Gray clouds fill the sky. The world turns blue right on cue. When a woman says goodbye. The grass lays brown. Autumn leaves all around. Another season full of promise passes by. Even birds feel the cold. Why’s a man the last to know. When a woman says goodbye. When a woman says goodbye. There ain’t no reason to wonder why. Just like seasons move along. Summers’ love has come and gone. If you look you can see her cry. When a woman says goodbye. And the days turn colder. When the sunlight can’t hold her. Shadows cover up another lie. All good things must end. That’s the way it’s always been. When a woman says goodbye. When a woman says goodbye. There ain’t no reason to wonder why. Just like seasons move along. Summers’ love has come and gone. If you look you can see her cry. When a woman says goodbye.

Fear 03:12
It’s been a long time since she slept through the night. She’ll toss and turn ‘til the morning sunrise. Outside her window a million shining stars. Light up to save Kayleigh from the dark. Scary monsters hide from her in the hall. Haunted shadows dance across the walls. The wind has voices. They call to her by name. They whisper, Hey Kayleigh are you OK? It’s just your mom and dad. We’re here. Looking in on you. Don’t be scared. When the darkness moves we’re always near. There is nothing in the night for you to fear. It’s just your mom and dad. We’re here. Looking in on you. Don’t be scared. When the darkness moves we’re always near. There is nothing in the night for you to fear. It’s been a long time. Now Kayleigh sleeps all night.

A package still unopened. A gift from me inside. A rose that lies beside it. Left behind to die. A note you never read. A sorry never seen. A table full of promises. Waiting hopelessly. Now I’m doing all the little things that I’ve never done before. Can I do enough to bring your love back to me once more? I would prove to you that my heart beats true in so many little ways. Still I hear you say. Too little too late. She’s growing up without me and I miss my little girl. How quickly life unravels when a selfish need comes first. I don’t drink anymore. I don’t stay out all night. I want to be the kind of man. Who treats his family right. Now I’m doing all the little things that I’ve never done before. Can I do enough to bring your love back to me once more? I would prove to you that my heart beats true in so many little ways. Still I hear you say. Too little too late. Now I’m doing all the little things that I’ve never done before. Can I do enough to bring your love back to me once more? I would prove to you that my heart beats true in so many little ways. Still I hear you say. Still I hear you say. Still I hear you say. Too little too late.

I’ve played it through my mind. Every mile 100 times. A plea for my surrender that sounds so sweet. But I’ve been runnin’ for so long. I’m not the kind to depend upon. It ain’t fair to make a promise I won’t keep. I drift wherever a steady wind will blow. Rollin’ like a tumbleweed through New Mexico. 100 miles from Santa Fe. I won’t change my mind. Leavin’ wasn’t easy but I swore for good this time. 100 miles from Santa Fe. Won’t go back again. I know this stretch of blacktop but my dreams they wait ‘round the bend. At the point of no return. Made my choice today. I’m 100 miles from Santa Fe. The rain ain’t giving in. I’m pushing through a heavy wind. Forcing me to question my next move. Mesmerized by the road I burn. I see your face at every turn. Seems the more I drive the more I think of you. The story I’ve created makes no sense. Let’s rewrite the part that changes. The way it ends. 100 miles from Santa Fe. 100 miles to learn. I could never really say goodbye. This is where I need to turn. 100 miles from Santa Fe. Your memory won’t let go. My head was set on leavin’ but my heart keeps saying no. 100 miles from Santa Fe. The fork that’s in my path. Diversion bound for nowhere or forever right on track. This highway leads me back to you. I’m coming home to stay. I’m 100 miles from Santa Fe. I’m 100 miles from Santa Fe. I’m 100 miles from Santa Fe.

Walk Away 03:57
I do love you. But not enough to stay. I do love you. So I’ll just walk away. You said we made the perfect pair. We’d stand the test of time. How I wish you were the only girl who’s ever crossed my mind. We spent those Summer nights together. You said never let me go. I said I can’t hold on forever. The winds of change will blow. I do love you. But not enough to stay. I do love you. So I’ll just walk away. Leavin’ can be hard to do. I recall a night of pain. The chilling truth that hit like thunder. And teardrops falling in the rain. You told me someday I’d be sorry. Don’t put my love up on a shelf. I say there’s no coming together. When you’re still running from yourself. I do love you. But not enough to stay. I do love you. So I’ll just walk away. I do love you. But not enough to stay. I do love you. So I’ll just walk away. So I’ll just walk away.

Sweet Dreams 04:00
Baby it’s late and you can’t fall asleep. You search for some meaning to this troubled life you keep. I know the words that you need to hear. So I’ll hold you close and whisper in your ear. Sweet dreams. Close your eyes. You can fall asleep in these arms of mine. Be still like the moonlight. While the night sings a peaceful lullaby. Let me take you to another place. Where two hearts both take flight. Sweet dreams. Sweet dreams tonight. Baby don’t worry. There’s nothing we can do. To change where we’ve been. Only where we’re headed to. Tonight let’s be dreamers. Set your limit in the sky. Take my hand. Let me show you how to fly. Sweet dreams. Close your eyes. You can fall asleep in these arms of mine. Be still like the moonlight. While the night sings a peaceful lullaby. Let me take you to another place. Where two hearts both take flight. Sweet dreams. Sweet dreams tonight. Let me take you to another place. Where two hearts both take flight. Sweet dreams. Sweet dreams tonight.

Mistakes 04:04
The first mistake I made was looking in your eyes. It was a chance I had to take. I never realized. A glance so warm and tender. Could hide so much pain. My first mistake was looking in your eyes. The next mistake I made. I gave my heart away. To a stranger passing through. Who never planned to stay. I gave my love so carelessly. A fool can never see. How wrong I was to give my heart away. They say time’s a loyal friend. And a heart needs time to mend. But until that time has come I’ll just pretend. How could I have been so wrong? Where do fools run when the love has gone? Is there a place where broken hearts belong? And no matter what I do. You’re always on my mind. You tell me let it go. But I’m not the quitting kind. If I wait until my dying day. Would you bring your love back home? Or will my last mistake be dying all alone?

Moments shared together. Just you and me. Taking the time. To be the man you need. My love was forever. This I promised you. It’s funny that I thought you loved me too. So your leaving took me by surprise. Can’t help but wonder why you said…. Bye bye and turned out the lights. I cry, cry in the still of the night. Searching in the darkness for any clue. I lie, lie feeling no pain. I die, die again and again. Bye bye end of story for me and you. Like birds of a feather. We shared the same dreams. We were flying to that sunset, tomorrow brings. Thought we’d stand any weather. Then those storm clouds came. You left my heart out in the rain. I guess forever, never crossed your mind. Can’t help but wonder why you said…. Bye bye and turned out the lights. I cry, cry in the still of the night. Searching in the darkness for any clue. I lie, lie feeling no pain. I die, die again and again. Bye bye end of story for me and you. End of story. There I find. Intention hidden. In between the lines. You said…. Bye bye and turned out the lights. I cry, cry in the still of the night. Searching in the darkness for any clue. I lie, lie feeling no pain. I die, die again and again. Bye bye end of story for me and you. Bye bye end of story for me and you. I guess bye bye ends this story.

So Far Away 03:56
I know where you are tonight. And it’s not here with me. Destiny’s will not collide. If it’s not meant to be. Worlds apart, that’s where we are. No matter what we say. We can fool ourselves with pretty words. But that won’t make you stay. You’re so far away. A little further than yesterday. We’ll find our fate in time. Where the truth resides. You’re so far away. I wonder if you’ll call tonight. Tell me how you’ve been. I’ll ask you the same ‘ol thing. Will I see you again? Sometimes love just ain’t enough. To win this game we play. Our hearts are tied together. By a chord that’s stressed to fray. You’re so far away. A little further than yesterday. We’ll find our fate in time. Where the truth resides. You’re so far away. If there’s nothing we can do. To make our wishes all come true. You’ll know I’m somewhere. Somewhere loving you. You’re so far away. A little further than yesterday. We’ll find our fate in time. Where the truth resides. You’re so far away. You’re so far away.

It Is Well 03:26

about

THANK YOU.

Family/Friends/Past & Present Students: No one needs to tell me how fortunate I have been thus far in my journey. You have all been so encouraging and inspirational and I appreciate all of you for that. I will not try to call you out one by one as that would be a nearly impossible task. I do want to thank you for your friendship as it means everything to me.
Mom & Dad: As long as I can draw a breath I will continue to tell the story of my amazing parents. You set the example of being gracious and giving and selfless. These are the virtues that I strive to echo in my life every day. You have always been there for me and I am forever grateful God gave me such incredible parents. I love you both so much.
Melissa: You have always been understanding of my need to make noise and usually encourage it (or you might hide behind a closed bedroom door until the chaos has ended). You know how much joy my art brings me and I love how you allow me to express myself in this way. You are the biggest piece of what makes my world such a happy place to be. You are my best friend and the one I can talk to about anything. I love you.
Johnny Mulhair: I considered adding the statement ‘Featuring Johnny Mulhair’ to the front cover of the album because your playing is all over this project. Take away my vocal performances and your guitar and pedal steel work are really ‘the’ sound of this album. I met you in the Summer of 1997 and didn’t think you would have time for a no-name independent artist like me. You had just finished playing/producing/engineering on the LeAnn Rimes debut album ‘Blue’ and I was feeling very much like one of the main characters in the Wayne’s World movie …. “I’m Not Worthy!” As it turns out you are the sweetest ‘salt of the earth’ kind of guy and I now consider you to be a good friend. Thank you for everything Johnny.
Jesse Mortensen: I tend to underestimate the time and effort a project will take to complete and you are well aware of this. When I asked you to help me finish my solo project I prefaced this with the thought that it would be a piece of cake and all we really needed to do was re-record my vocals. Easy right? So here we are a year and a half later and not one sour note from you. I could not have completed this project without you. The ‘sound’ of this album is so far beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I really am blown away by your talents. You are a brother to me and a musical freak and I am so blessed that our paths crossed. Thank you for sticking this one out with me.

Steven Maxwell Mitchell (26 APR 1965 – 22 AUG 2018)
I have always loved music but the singer/songwriter/guitar player part all started when I met you in December of 1983. You could play and sing just about any of the popular rock songs of the day and I was blown away by that ability. I watched in awe as you played the intro to “Don’t Talk To Strangers” by Dio. Your fingers were finding their way to all the perfect notes and your singing wasn’t just a ‘passable’ version …. you were singing like a pro. You were also an incredible songwriter and it is what you could do with pen, paper, and a guitar that would change my life forever. Your ability to write a really good song inspired me to try and do the same. You helped me get my first guitar and taught me how to play my first chords. That was all I needed. I was now writing words and melodies and playing the guitar and creating original songs. Wow! I remember taking new songs over to your place and you would always show a sincere interest in them. In the years that followed until your passing you continued to ask what I was currently working on and your feedback was taken to heart. If a different chord was more interesting you would try to explain why my chord worked but the new chord worked better. You would survey my stories and encourage me to re-write something if you felt like I could say it better. Like a great teacher your feedback was meant to build up and not tear down. You were a musical hero to me so I felt like I had really done something good when you gave me your stamp of approval. You made me feel like there was something special about my songs and your desire to be a part of the writing/arranging process was where your words matched your actions. It was you who searched out the first recording studio for my songs as you felt these songs deserved to be heard. You were certainly the driving force in the early phases of this project and it is no coincidence why things stalled out when you left for Las Vegas. There is not enough room on this CD panel to speak to the significance that you have had on my life so I will simply say thank you for everything. You live on in your girls and I believe you live on in the songs that I write. I miss being able to call you when a new creation falls from my sky and I need help in the writing process. And I miss that feeling of anticipation and excitement to get your feedback on a new song when I think it is finished. I miss just sitting around and talking about nothing. But most of all I miss my friend.
